Xiaochen Ma (马晓晨)

Xiaochen Ma (马晓晨) is a Ph.D. student in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) since January 2026, advised by Prof. Binhang Yuan and Prof. Wentao Zhang.

Prior to his Ph.D. studies, he worked as a Research Assistant at Peking University, where he conducted research on Large Language Models (LLMs) and Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) under the supervision of Prof. Wentao Zhang.

Previously, from July 2023 to June 2024, he served as a Research Assistant at Sichuan University, advised by Prof. Jizhe Zhou.

Xiaochen received his B.Eng. in Computer Science from the College of Computer Science, Sichuan University in June 2023, where his undergraduate thesis was awarded as an Outstanding Undergraduate Thesis, ranking top 2 out of over 400 students.

He actively embraces the open-source community, with his repositories accumulating 3000+ GitHub stars in total on GitHub.

Research Interests

His research focuses on:

• LLM Systems and Deep Learning Systems
• System design and optimization for large-scale deep learning
• Image Forensics and Image Manipulation Detection
• Multimodal Large Models (MLLMs)

In particular, his current research primarily targets LLM systems and traditional Deep Learning system design, while also exploring multimodal foundation models.
